Hi my name is Lesley but my friends call me Leesi. I have fallen in love with hooping and various styles of dance and tricks that can be intertwined with a hoola hoop. Even though I started hooping as a child I didn’t really become infatuated with it again untill about 5 years ago when I was in my 30’s.
My husband and I were at a circus and there was a fantastically skilled hooper. My husband poked me and said "You should learn to do that." So, I did. I researched for months about hooping, learned to make hoops and started practicing. Since I fly trapeze and do aerial arts as a hobby, I started with the traditional style of circus hooping which is more trick and multi hoop focused. My love and skills increased with every move that I was finally able to perfect.
In my fascination of hooping I became aware of a style of hooping called hoop dance. I have traveled to take lessons from some famous people in the hooping community so that I could increase my knowledge and ability in hoop dancing.
Since the beginning of this obsession with hooping as an adult, I have had the opportunity to teach hooping as fitness and as a style of dance, perform at the Fringe festival in 2005, Estro Jam in both 2005 and 2006, pre-performances for Master Mike 2006, and fire hoop.
I love sharing my knowledge and understanding of hooping with the community and my students. Hooping is a workout with so many results its hard to explain. I think the best benefit of hooping is the happiness you feel as you are able to feel the rhythm of the hoop and incorporate it into your life in many styles, making the hooping experience yours and smiling as you do it.
